Fleas and ticks are parasitic creatures found on dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals. They are the type of parasite known as ectoparasites because they live outside of their host’s body. Fleas and ticks pose a serious threat to our pets because they reproduce rapidly and carry disease.
Several signs can indicate your pet has an infestation. If you notice fleas on your dog or cat (or, if applicable, yourself!) or ticks on your pet, it may be a sign of an infestation. Another sign is if you suspect your pet has been itching more than usual; this could be because they have flea or tick bites. Your pets will be more likely to get ticks and fleas if you take walks in the woods, as that is where these pests tend to live.
The most common signs of a tick infestation are:
Fleas and ticks can, of course, cause a number of negative symptoms in our pets. Their bites are itchy and irritating for your pet, making them want to scratch at their skin excessively. If a dog has too many flea bites, they may suffer from anemia and exfoliative dermatitis, which causes their skin to peel away in large chunks.
They may also get tapeworms from ingesting an infected flea, which can be dangerous for your pet. Ticks are known to spread Lyme Disease, which is a severe illness that requires veterinary intervention. Because these parasites also carry other diseases with them, it is essential to treat pets for ticks and fleas as soon as possible to prevent them from transmitting the diseases they carry to your pets.
Fleas and ticks are a burden for both pets and humans. They can also be difficult to get rid of, but you don’t have to worry about that with the right pest control company on your side! Contact Domain Pest Control today if you need help getting fleas or ticks out of your house once and for all.
