Do Spiders Fly?

If you have a spider problem in your home, these little critters might be one of the most difficult to deal with. Luckily, most spiders do not fly and so they cannot easily get into your house. Still, you want to make sure that if you see any sort of bug flying around your room for an extended period of time (or at all), you are armed with the right information about what to do and how to deal with these creatures.

If you don’t have a clue about what to do, you’re in luck; just keep on reading this post and learn about these creatures and the best methods in handling them:

What are Spiders?

Spiders are small 8-legged bugs that come in all shapes and sizes. Some of them, like the Black Widow spider, are quite dangerous; others can be helpful around your home by eating other pests (like mosquitos). You most likely don’t want to see any spiders in your house, but it is important to note that while spiders have been given a bad reputation, they actually do some good around your household.

What are the Benefits of Having Spiders Around?

As mentioned previously, spiders also do some good around your home. They can help keep mosquitos under control and eat other bugs that we typically are not fond of – so if you have a problem with ants, for instance, spiders around your house can help get rid of these pests. Spiders are able to eat their weight in insects each day, so if you start to notice less insects around your home, know that the spiders are helping get rid of them. Spiders don’t typically bite humans unless they feel threatened.

What are the Dangers That Spiders Pose?

Spiders are not dangerous if left alone, but they can be a nuisance. If you see them in your home crawling around on the wall or  near your ceiling, this might pose an issue for you. Not every spider is venomous – so chances are, if you get bitten by a Giant House Spider (for example), it is not going to be life-threatening.

However, while most spiders are not dangerous, there are some that can pose a serious threat to your health if you get bit. If you feel any sort of reaction after being bitten by a spider, it might be best to take note of these symptoms or have them checked out by your doctor. Some of these reactions can include: redness around the site of the bite, unusual swelling, and severe pain in the area around the bite.

How Can I Get Rid of Spiders?

There are no easy ways to get rid of spiders permanently. If you have a spider in your house, it is because it has good reason for being there (such as a food source, comfortable climate, or an entranceway for insects). As such, it can be quite difficult to get rid of spiders from your house.

If you want to get rid of or prevent spiders from entering your home, there are some helpful tips you can follow.

  1. Keep a clean house: If there is less of a food source, insects won’t be able to come around as frequently and spiders will struggle to find something to eat – this way, they might leave on their own accord.
  2. Reduce clutter: Getting rid of the dirt and dust around your house can reduce a potential food source for insects. This way, they won’t want to come into your home as much.
  3. Seal holes in the foundation or exterior of your home: If you have openings in areas where spiders might be able to enter, make sure to seal them up with caulk or cement. This way, they won’t want to come into your home anymore.
